Marisa Burgoyne

Dance Teacher (Principal)

Marisa started dancing at the age of 7. Marisa trained with Olga Cooper a Royal Academy of Dance major vocational examiner in Exeter. Marisa also did some teaching for Miss Cooper whilst training for her R.A.D teaching qualifications. Marisa also trained at the Royal Academy of Dance under Herida May another R.A.D major vocational examiner. Marisa passed the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Diploma

Specialising in the Teaching of Children and then went on to train at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, Teachers Working Sessions towards their Associate examination syllabus. Marisa also undertook additional training with another examiner Miss P. King.

Marisa has taught in several private schools in the area Abbotsbury, Stover, St. Bernard’s and the Abbey School in Torquay. As well as having schools in Bovey Tracey and Ipplepen. In 1996 Marisa decided to focus her attention to the Torquay area. Marisa and her family bought Cary Court Hotel in Babbacombe Torquay and converted it into a dance studio and family home Cary Court Studio. In 2006 an additional studio was built to enable the development of the school further with Musical Theatre, singing, drama and adult classes being introduced.

Marisa continues with CPD (Continual Professional Development) as do the other dance teachers in the school to keep up to date with changing teaching practice, learn new skills refresh and upgrade the knowledge of dance.

Students in the school have enjoyed performing on stage with Wayne Sleep, Su Pollard, Jan Leeming, Jimmy Cricket and Russian Ellen Kent Ballet Company.
